VHRA ‘Throttle’ UK
Words and Pictures by Keith Harman
The UK’s Vintage Hot Rod Association have always had driving hot rods at the core of their events, you’ve already heard about the Pendine Sands beach races, but drag racing and hill climb events have also featured as well as their annual swap meet. . In the last few years, a closed circuit short track day, dubbed ‘Throttle’, has also been added to that list. Held at at an ex-RAF air field just outside the town of Bicester (say it, Bister), in Oxfordshire, we finally made it along in our own A-V8 roadster this year. A three hour run from home, a good thrash around the circuit, and back home again without a problem. Three classes were organised, four-bangers, Flathead V8’s, an OHV’s, with each group given a six lap thrash around the twisty circuit. Not officially a race, nor were the laps timed, which allowed a fun time without all the hassle of an official race event. What next for the VHRA? Not sure yet, but watch this space….
