A Legend Returns 

The Meltdown Drags built a fan base that extends around the globe, thanks to social media. When it unexpectedly ended following the 2018 edition, it left vintage drag racing fans heartbroken. While there are many similar events around the United States, there was just something about the way that the Meltdown was carried out by its organizers. It just had a certain energy that’s hard to explain. When the announcement came that it would be returning in July of 2026, the excitement and anticipation spread like wild fire. Racers from every corner of the country converged on Byron Dragway in Byron, Illinois to see if that magic could be captured again. I can tell you that it was as spectacular as ever! I was a bit rusty, having not photographed drag racing in several years, but I found my way back into the groove. Here’s hoping that this was just the beginning of a whole new Meltdown!
